Specialisation modules #
Round off your profile and set your individual focus
You will expand and focus your specialist skills by deepening your knowledge in the specialisations offered, depending on the entrepreneurial area in which you are planning to start your career.
In small groups, you will learn the theoretical content and apply it in a practical way - tailored to specific business problems and everyday professional situations - in case studies and presentations.
You can choose from the following specialisation modules, which are internationally oriented and geared towards various business functions:
Foreign language modules #
Take elective modules at four levels in the first four semesters.
One language must be taken at 4 levels (depending on prior knowledge, starting at A2 or B1) in semesters 1-4:

Final thesis #
Bachelor's thesis
A written Bachelor's thesis is planned for the 7th semester. The colloquium rounds off the Bachelor's degree programme in International Management in the form of an oral examination.
Contents
- Guideline length: 50 pages (+/- 10%), without outline, lists, appendix, to be printed on one page
- Processing time: 12 weeks
- Language: German or English on request
- Writing counselling: The individual learning and writing counselling at HSD prepares you for writing term papers and the Bachelor's thesis.
- Application of the methodology of scientific work
- Application of project and time management
- Familiarisation with a subject area and working on a scientific task from the subject area
Guidelines for production
The thesis is completed as part of the Bachelor's examination. The legal basis can be found in the (framework) examination regulations of your degree programme.
Please also refer to the description of the "Bachelor's thesis" module in the module handbook and the guidelines for writing the thesis issued by the examination board of the Faculty of Business Studies at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences.
Registration
Admission to the thesis is granted by the Examination Board upon application (thesis application form) by the student and provided that the admission requirements are met. The original applications must be sent to the Academic Office.
Topic of the thesis: It is possible to make suggestions for the topic of the thesis on the application form.
Note : Notification of admission to the thesis and the topic of the thesis will be sent by post.
Thesis supervision
Please contact potential supervisors for your thesis in good time (one semester in advance). Make use of the professors' office hours or speak to them during lectures.
Colloquium
Registration
Registration for the colloquium takes place at the examination office as the responsible administrative unit (and not with the examiners themselves) only when the thesis is submitted via the colloquium registration form, NOT via the OSSC portal.
Please find out about your individual colloquium date before the start of the respective examination period. The dates will be announced on the website under examination information.

Prof. Dr. Anne Christin Kemper
Head of degree programme, General Business Administration, esp. International Marketing and Research
Prof. Dr. Anne Christin Kemper has been Professor of General Business Administration, International Marketing and Research at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences since 2014. She has many years of international management experience in well-known companies in the consumer and capital goods sector, particularly in various management levels of international marketing, international brand management and international business development. Her cross-industry strategic and operational expertise is reflected in her very application-oriented teaching approach.
Prof. Dr. Lothar Funk
Head of degree programme, Economics, esp. International Economic Relations
Prof. Dr. Lothar Funk studied economics at the University of Trier and Loughborough University of Technology in the UK. Lothar Funk worked as DAAD Senior Fellow & Director of Economic Research at the Institute for German Studies at the University of Birmingham, UK. He was Head of Division at the Cologne Institute for Economic Research. Among others, he is co-editor of the academic journal "Sozialer Fortschritt - German Review of Social Policy".
Prof. Dr. Markus Albrecht
General Business Administration, in particular Controlling
Prof. Dr. Marcus Albrecht has been Professor of Controlling and ABWL at HSD since 2010. His teaching/research specialises in the areas of controlling, data analytics/AI, risk management, change management and leadership. Marcus Albrecht has extensive specialist and management experience from well-known banks/NPOs and advises companies and public institutions on issues relating to corporate management, analytics and AI projects as well as change management. He is a student-centred professor who combines theoretical concepts and models with management practice in an application-oriented way in his courses.
Prof. Dr. Hans-H. Bleuel
International Business Administration incl. Regional Studies
Prof. Dr. Hans-H. Bleuel has extensive professional experience in multinational companies in the consumer and capital goods industry. This is also the reason for his didactic approach, which he describes as "application- and decision-orientated".
Prof. Dr. Michael Bugge
General Business Administration, in particular Personnel Management
Prof. Dr. Michael Bugge has around 20 years of professional experience as a human resources manager in multinational medium-sized companies in the manufacturing industry. As a business educator, he favours learning settings that promote transfer, e.g. through the frequent use of case studies to consolidate theoretical learning content.
Prof. Dr. Dirk Grathwohl
General business administration: Corporate Accounting, esp. IFRS
Prof. Dr. Dirk Grathwohl has been a professor of international accounting at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences since 2015. He was previously head of the accounting department of a large German retail group.
Prof. Dr. Christian Kölle
General business administration, in particular Quantitative Methods, Financial Management
Prof. Dr. Christian Kölle teaches the specialisation "International Finance" in the BIM degree programme, which focuses on financial economics. Prior to teaching, he worked in various functions at an international bank.
Prof. Dr. Astrid Lachmann
General Business Administration, in particular Corporate Management, Controlling and Information Management
Prof. Dr. Astrid Lachmann teaches the international controlling specialisation on the BIM degree course. Prior to teaching, she worked for many years as a manager in the controlling department of renowned DAX companies. She has in-depth controlling expertise in complex corporate structures. International companies were already the focus of her business studies, which she completed in Germany and the USA.
Prof. Dr. Sabine Otte-Gräbener, LL.M.
Civil Law, Commercial, corporate and Labour Law
Prof. Dr. Sabine Otte-Gräbener, LL.M. has been Professor of Civil, Commercial and Corporate Law at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences since 2015. Sabine Otte-Gräbener previously worked as a lawyer in major international law firms. She is the author of numerous publications, particularly in the field of corporate law.
Prof. Dr. Peter Scheideler
General Business Administration, in particular International Distribution Management
Prof. Dr. Peter Scheideler has over 17 years of professional experience in management positions in the retail / consumer goods sector (e.g. at Procter&Gamble, Boston Consulting Group, Obi Group Holding, Bata). He completed his studies in industrial engineering in Germany, the USA and Spain. He teaches "International Distribution Management" at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, where he covers both logistics and distribution topics.
Christina Lehmann, Dipl.-Betriebswirtin
Lecturer for business informatics and accounting
Christina Lehmann has been working as a lecturer for special tasks at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences in the field of business informatics and accounting since 2012. Before joining HSD, Christina Lehmann worked as a senior consultant at SAP SE for 10 years.
Daniela Mühlen, M.A.
Lecturer for International Trade Fair Management
Daniela Mühlen heads the Communication & Advertising division at Messe Essen and has experience in strategic brand management both on the corporate and agency side. She passes on her knowledge of trade fairs as a marketing tool in various degree programmes in the Department of Business Studies.
Dr. Mike Seidensticker
Lecturer for Trade Fair and Congress Management, Brand and Marketing Communication, Communication Science
Dr. Mike Seidensticker, a historian and trained journalist, has worked in various positions in the international trade fair business for 30 years, currently as company spokesman for Reed Exhibitions, one of the world's leading organisers of trade fairs and exhibitions. Seidensticker is regarded as one of the most profound experts in international trade fair marketing.
